The Commander of the Faithful, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, President of the Supreme Scientific Council, on Friday, 21 Dhul Hijjah 1445 AH, corresponding to June 28, 2024, issued high instructions to the said Council to study the issues contained in some proposals of the commission in charge of reviewing the Family Code, based on the principles and provisions of the true Islamic religion and its tolerant purposes, and to submit a fatwa on them to His Majesty’s high consideration.
This referral comes after the commission in charge of revising the code completed its tasks within the deadline and submitted its proposals to His Majesty’s Royal Highness, who decided to refer the matter to the Supreme Scientific Council, which, according to Article 41 of the Constitution, is the only body qualified to issue fatwas that are officially approved.
His Majesty also called on the Supreme Scientific Council to recall the contents of the High Royal Message addressed to the Prime Minister, calling for the adoption of the virtues of moderation and open and constructive ijtihad, in light of the control that His Majesty has always expressed, not allowing the analysis of haram or the prohibition of halal.
