Princess Lalla Asmaa Presides Over End-of-Year Ceremony for Lalla Asmaa Foundation for Deaf Children and Youth

Princess Lalla Asmaa, President of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation for Deaf Children and Youth, presided over the end-of-year ceremony for the 2023-2024 academic year on Monday in Rabat.

During the event, the Princess attended a presentation on training educators in “bilingual education for the deaf” via video conference, delivered by Dr. Cheryl Shahan, an Assistant Clinical Professor specializing in bilingual deaf education from the University of Tennessee.

Her Highness visited a classroom implementing “bilingual education for the deaf” and toured the audiometry room accompanied by Mr. Richard John Brook, CEO of Cochlear – Australia.

In his address, Karim Essakalli, coordinator of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, highlighted the Foundation’s tangible achievements, including over 400 cochlear implants in Morocco and more than 120 in Africa, as well as the academic successes attained.

Princess Lalla Asmaa presided over the signing of two partnership agreements. The first was with the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication to enable the Foundation’s children to benefit from summer camps. The second was with the Higher Institute of Dramatic Art and Cultural Animation to supervise artistic workshops at the Foundation.

The ceremony concluded with a dance performance by the Foundation’s students, followed by the distribution of certificates and awards to top performers.

The event was attended by several ministers and officials, underscoring the official interest in issues concerning deaf children and youth and the Foundation’s efforts in this field.
