The Casablanca Judicial Police Department, in close cooperation with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, managed, in the early hours of Monday, June 03, to thwart a major international drug smuggling operation.
The operation was carried out on the basis of solid intelligence information. During the operation, a huge amount of Shira drug, amounting to 18 tons and 243 kilograms, was seized, which was planned to be smuggled from the Sidi Rahal beach area.
This joint security operation resulted in the arrest of five people who were in a position to intercept the seized drugs. They were caught on board a large truck equipped for the international transportation of goods, and were trying to load the drugs onto fast rubber boats, with the aim of smuggling them through sea routes, starting from the coast of Sidi Rahal, on the outskirts of Casablanca.
Thanks to intensive search and combing procedures, a set of fuel containers, powerful marine engines, three rubber speedboats, air pumps, a satellite phone, as well as a large truck that was intended to transport the drugs through land routes were seized.
The five people arrested in this case were kept in custody, pending the judicial investigation ordered by the competent public prosecution.
This step comes to uncover all aspects and possible connections of this criminal network at the national and international levels, and specifically to arrest all those involved in its criminal activities.
The operation is part of the joint efforts of the National Security and National Surveillance Services to dismantle international crime networks, especially those involved in drug smuggling.
