Rabat – King Mohammed VI on Saturday appointed Tarek Hamman as director general of Morocco’s National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), succeeding the previous director.
Hammane holds a master’s degree specialised in automated systems engineering from the National Institute of Applied Sciences in Lyon, France, and has extensive experience in Morocco’s energy and electricity sector.
Since 2023, Hammane was the Managing Director of the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN). In 2022, he was Vice President in charge of hydrogen development activities at Total Eren and General Manager of its North African subsidiaries.
Prior to that, from 2017 to 2022, Hamman served as Director of Development at the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN). From 2009 to 2017, he served as Director of Projects and Production Programme at the National Electricity Office (ONEE), which he will now manage.
Hammane’s appointment comes as Morocco seeks to strengthen the energy sector and achieve sustainability and reliance on renewable and clean energy sources. The ONEE is expected to benefit from Hammane’s extensive experience in this field.
