Agadir seminar on financing opportunities to boost the competitiveness of the aquaculture sector

Agdir, Morocco: The National Agency for the Development of Marine Aquaculture (ANDA), in partnership with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), is organising, on Thursday, 30 May 2024, an important seminar on financing initiatives for the aquaculture sector under the theme ‘Financing opportunities to enhance the competitiveness of the aquaculture sector’.

A wide range of stakeholders will participate:

The seminar will be attended by a group of dignitaries, including representatives from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), financing and insurance institutions, as well as a number of organisations and private players in the aquaculture sector.

In-depth discussion of challenges and solutions:

The seminar will provide a platform to discuss the challenges associated with financing aquaculture activities in Morocco, highlighting the importance of incentivising financial institutions to support the development of this promising sector to ensure its sustainable growth and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Innovative offerings to support investment:

The discussion will focus on the offers available to support investment in the aquaculture sector through the development of innovative financing mechanisms, in addition to presenting the experiences of industry players and sharing their views on the sustainable development of aquaculture.

An ambitious programme to boost the sector:

This seminar is part of the financing agreement signed between the IsDB and the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco in October 2023, which aims to implement the ‘Making Aquaculture Work for Market and Social Inclusion’ programme – ‘Making Aquaculture Work for Market and Social Inclusiveness Project’.

A huge budget and comprehensive support for entrepreneurs:

This ambitious four-year programme, which has three main pillars (financing entrepreneurship, sharing expertise and knowledge, promoting trade and valorising seafood products), is funded with a budget of over AED 200 million.

The programme aims to support the business environment in the aquaculture sector by stimulating and supporting new productive investments.

The programme pays special attention to all actors in the sector, especially MSMEs, young entrepreneurs and fishing cooperatives, which will contribute to empowering a new generation of aquaculture entrepreneurs across the Kingdom.
