Ministry of Health and Social Protection launches national campaign to raise awareness of the importance of the first 1,000 days of a child’s life from 22 May to 22 June 2024

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection, in partnership with the National Initiative for Human Development, is launching a national campaign to raise awareness of the importance of the first thousand days of a child’s life, under the slogan ‘The first thousand days, the foundation of our children’s future’, from 22 May to 22 June 2024.
Through this campaign, the Ministry aims to raise awareness of the importance of this stage of a child’s life in terms of physical, cognitive, social and emotional development, which extends from the beginning of pregnancy to the age of two, and to promote best practices in nutrition such as a healthy and balanced diet during pregnancy, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, gradual introduction of complementary feeding starting from the sixth month, as well as the continuation of breastfeeding until the age of two. The campaign also aims to improve the knowledge of pregnant and breastfeeding women and their families about the benefits of adopting these practices to ensure good health and nutrition for mother and child.
This sensitisation campaign comes in line with international recommendations and the Ministry’s belief in the importance of this stage of life as a crucial and influential stage in the child’s successive stages of life. Early investment in proper nutrition and health care, as well as early and appropriate education and psychosocial stimulation during the first thousand days of a child’s life, will have a significant positive impact on the child’s future, health, physical and intellectual development, socialisation and open-mindedness. Conversely, poor nutrition and health care in early childhood can lead to stunted or delayed physical, cognitive, intellectual and emotional development.
Aware of this situation, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the National Initiative for Human Development, together with their partners, contribute to consolidating and strengthening achievements through several projects and programmes designed to develop the human capital of the younger generations.
To this end, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, in collaboration with its partners, has prepared a range of audiovisual and print supports and articles on the subject, which will be made available to the public and various stakeholders through the ‘My Health’ portal www.sehati.gov.ma and on the portal’s social media platforms.
