According to recent figures from the specialist website Global Petrol Prices, Morocco is one of the top 5 countries on the African continent where petrol costs the most.
Despite a fall last week, fuel prices in Morocco are still higher than they were a year ago. Indeed, the price at the pump underwent a series of increases during the summer of 2023, the effects of which are still being felt.
At present, the average price of a litre of petrol in Morocco is 15.46 Moroccan dirhams, or around 1.54 US dollars. This puts the Kingdom in the top 5 of African countries where petrol costs the most, according to the latest data published by Global Petrol Prices.

‘We use historical data for petrol prices in the country. The data is updated with current values on exchange rates and international oil prices. Based on these estimates, the price of petrol in Morocco is 1.54 (U.S. Dollar). By way of comparison, the average price of petrol worldwide for this period is 1.35 U.S. Dollars”, writes the site.
This puts Morocco in 4th place on the continent, behind the Seychelles ($1.627), Senegal ($1.628) and Zimbabwe ($1.690). Libya and Egypt have the cheapest fuel on the continent.
