The Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social Economy announced on Tuesday that two regional implementation contracts have been signed to accelerate the pace of the Tourism Roadmap 2023-2026 at the regional level in the Tangier-Tetouan-Hoceima and Daraa-Tafilalt regions.
‘As part of the implementation of the Tourism Roadmap 2023-2026 at the regional level, an important milestone was reached in the Tangier-Tetouan-Hoceima and Daraa-Tafilalt regions, with the signing of implementation contracts by the Ministry of Tourism, Traditional Industry, Social Economy and Solidarity, the governors and prefects of the Tangier-Tetouan-Hoceima and Daraa-Tafilalt regions, the Moroccan Company for Tourism Enterprises and the Moroccan National Office of Tourism,’ the ministry said in a statement.
Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatma Zahra Amor, said in the press release: ‘The signing of the regional implementation contracts is crucial for the tourism roadmap, as it is a prerequisite for the implementation of all projects.
‘It is also a strong signal of the stakeholders’ commitment to the development of tourism in the Tangier-Tetouan-Hoceima and Daraa-Tafilalt regions, whose implementation contracts now signed contain ambitious goals and structured projects to achieve them.
The roadmap aims to welcome 700,000 tourists in the Tangier-Tetouan-Hoceima region and 400,000 in the Daraa-Tafilalt region by 2026.
In the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, 21 major projects are planned to enhance the tourism offer in the sectors of city break, nature and exploration, coastal tourism and domestic tourism.
These projects include the development of tourism in a number of tourist sites and beaches, the development of nature trails, the development of accommodation products, the promotion of tourism in ancient cities, the creation of a tourist and leisure attraction in Tetouan, the implementation of the promotional and marketing plan for the region, and the launch of a flagship project, the Institute of the Mediterranean World.
As for the Draa-Tafilalt region, 15 projects will be realised in the desert and oasis adventure sector to develop the site of the Toudghi Gorge and the square opposite the Ait Ben Haddou Palace, improve the scenography of the Cinema Museum, create a tourist recreation area ‘Jamaa El Fen’ dedicated to immersive cinema shows, create a central tourist recreation area around the Kasbah of Taourirt and create the Carnival of Ouarzazate.
The important phase of signing the regional implementation contracts for the tourism roadmap has reached full speed.
After Fez-Meknes, Beni Mellal-Khenifra, Tangier-Tetouan-Hoceima and Daraa-Tafilalt, other regions will soon follow, accelerating the pace of the tourism development programmes being implemented in these regions.
