The General Delegation for Prison and Reintegration Administration denied, on Monday, allegations published on a website regarding abuses against inmates in the solitary wing of Toulal 2 prison in Meknes, extortion of staff by drug barons, and the employment of prisoners in their favor.
In an explanatory statement, the Delegation explained that as soon as it became aware of these serious allegations that affect the physical safety of prison inmates, it dispatched an inspection committee to the scene to verify the veracity of these allegations.
The investigations concluded that the published allegations “are nothing more than malicious fabrications” aimed at putting pressure on the staff, especially the head of the security and order department, to discourage them from performing their duties seriously and strictly, in accordance with the law and regulations governing the functioning of prisons.
The Delegation categorically denied the allegation of exploitation of prisoners assigned to work by drug barons, stressing that these prisoners carry out their tasks under strict control by the institution’s staff, after being selected from among inmates of good character.
In its statement, the Delegation emphasized that it will firmly address all false news and allegations that are circulated about prison institutions, whether through the media or social media.
In view of the seriousness of the allegations published in this article, the Delegation announced that it has decided to pursue the website concerned judicially.
