Mustafa Baytas, the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament and the official spokesperson of the government, denied any evasion by the government in providing answers regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding the repercussions of the AstraZeneca vaccine, following the manufacturer’s decision to withdraw it from some markets.
Baytas affirmed, during a press conference following a government council meeting on Thursday, that the government ‘does not object to going to Parliament and discussing any topic.’ He clarified that ‘Parliament is still in the process of completing its structures with the committees, and when they are complete and begin their work, the government will discuss various issues, and there is no topic that cannot be addressed.’
In response to a journalist’s question on the subject, Baytas added that ‘vaccines are not used until they are approved by the specialized scientific committees in this matter.’
Baytas’s statements come after accusations by some opposition parties against the government of withholding information regarding the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine, especially after the decision of some European countries to temporarily suspend its use due to concerns about rare blood clotting events among some recipients.
