Morocco is facing an alarming shortage of forensic doctors, with their number not exceeding 6 fully qualified doctors in this field, according to the statement of the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, before Parliament last Monday.
The minister clarified that this small number is supplemented by 76 doctors who have “competence” in forensic medicine, but their work is not limited to examining corpses. It also includes issuing medical certificates and examining victims of violence and others.
Ait Taleb pointed out that his ministry is “taking measures” to overcome this shortage, but he did not provide concrete details about these measures or their timeline.
