The Oujda Local Prison administration categorically denies the allegations made by the mother of the prisoner (B.H.) regarding her son being subjected to physical assault within the prison walls, affirming that he is receiving the necessary medical care and his health condition is stable.
The prison administration clarified in a statement that the mentioned prisoner has been suffering from sudden paralysis in his lower limbs since March 29, 2024. He was immediately transferred to the external hospital for necessary medical examinations, including MRI and muscle mapping.
The administration confirmed that his health condition is currently stable, and he is under medical observation awaiting the results of additional tests. He is housed in a dedicated room for inmates with special needs within the prison.
The administration emphatically denies the mother’s allegations of signs of beating and injury on her son’s face, confirming that the prisoner himself has not lodged any complaint regarding being subjected to any physical assault. The administration also stated that the competent public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the allegations made by the prisoner’s mother.
Regarding her prohibition from visiting her son, the prison administration explained that the mother of the concerned prisoner has already visited him on April 5, 2024, where she was briefed on his health status and received necessary medical care inside and outside the institution.
Regarding subsequent visits, the administration stated that the visit on April 12, 2024, coincided with Eid al-Fitr, and according to the memo related to this occasion, inmates were allowed to receive holiday baskets without a visit. Additionally, the prisoner’s mother did not attend the scheduled visit on April 19, 2024.
The administration noted that the prisoner’s mother’s last visit, accompanied by a lawyer, on April 26, 2024, coincided with her son’s transfer to the external hospital for treatment. The prison administration requested her to wait until his return, but she chose to leave the institution.
The Oujda Local Prison administration concluded its statement by affirming that it “fulfills its obligations as required in all matters related to the care of inmates in the institution, including protecting their physical and moral integrity.”
