Mr. Abdelouafi Laftit, Moroccan Minister of Interior, received Mr. Gérald Darmanin, French Minister of Interior and Overseas Territories, in an important meeting held today in Rabat, attended by a number of distinguished guests from both countries.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, the meeting focused on bilateral talks followed by an extended working session, where issues of common interest were reviewed and ways to enhance cooperation were explored in line with the visions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency President Emmanuel Macron, with the aim of building an exceptional strategic partnership based on the foundations of friendship and respect for mutual interests.
The same sources indicated that the two ministers praised the deep and multifaceted bilateral relationship between the two countries, stressing the importance of the security and migration components in that relationship and their vital role in maintaining the momentum of cooperation, through continuous dialogue at all levels.
In the context of discussing the regional and international scene, the two ministers affirmed their convergence of views on security challenges and agreed to strengthen intelligence exchange channels and cooperation in the fight against organized crime and terrorism, especially in desert and coastal areas.
Mr. Laftit highlighted in this context the comprehensive strategy adopted by Morocco to face security challenges, stressing the importance of the efforts made in the field of counter-extremism and reintegration.
For his part, Mr. Darmanin praised the Moroccan approach and its positive role in the region, considering Morocco an impregnable fortress against security threats and a reliable partner on the international scene.
The statement concluded with Mr. Darmanin’s praise for Morocco’s support for security interests in the preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
