Moroccan experts and researchers gathered in the city of Fez on Tuesday to discuss the role of innovation and advanced technologies in the field of energy and how they can contribute to promoting sustainable development in Morocco.
Participants at the International Day of Engineering Research, held under the شعار “Energy and its Role in Supporting Sustainable Development in Morocco,” stressed the importance of enhancing the role of advanced technologies in the energy sector. They noted that this can contribute to achieving sustainable development at both the national and global levels.
In his opening remarks, Mohammed Karim, Director of the Higher School of Technology in Fez, highlighted the importance of this event given the efforts being made in the field of innovation and advanced technologies, which are contributing to building a cleaner and safer energy future for the planet.
He praised Morocco’s efforts to develop a sustainable energy model based on clean and efficient energy, thanks to the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Karim also touched on the progress made in the field of solar energy and the regulatory frameworks in place, such as Law 09-13, which aims to encourage investments in the production of electricity from renewable sources, whether from individuals or companies, in both the public and private sectors.
For his part, expert Khammar Marabet, specializing in the field of nuclear energy, shed light on the role of nuclear technologies in achieving environmental and economic sustainability in Morocco. He spoke about their applications in areas such as nuclear medicine, scientific research, agriculture, and industry.
Marabet stressed the importance of Morocco’s investment in nuclear energy, especially in the field of seawater desalination, despite the challenges related to waste management and nuclear accidents. He pointed out that Morocco is one of the countries that has signed all international agreements related to nuclear energy.
On the other hand, Viktor Mazripov, Director of International Cooperation at the Russian company Rosatom, presented the company’s commitments to developing the use of nuclear energy in partner countries, including Morocco, especially in the field of seawater desalination to address water scarcity and drought.
Mazripov affirmed Rosatom’s readiness to share its expertise and technologies with Morocco in this field, referring to the fruitful cooperation between the two countries in the field of nuclear energy.
The meeting program included interactive sessions and lectures by Moroccan and international experts, covering a variety of topics such as resource management, electricity, information technology, environmental protection, and industrial processes.
