More than 550 humanitarian aid trucks were recently allowed to enter the Gaza Strip after extensive security checks, according to the Israeli military. However, the UN believes that this number is not enough to meet the needs of Gaza residents
Coordination of aid efforts
The Israeli army works in collaboration with the Israeli organization Cogat to facilitate the daily passage of hundreds of trucks of food and humanitarian aid into Gaza. In addition to the trucks, 56 shipments of food aid were also airdropped into the region.
Insufficient humanitarian aid
The UN stresses that there has been no significant improvement in the volume of humanitarian aid entering Gaza, nor in access to the north of the region. On average, only 181 aid trucks enter Gaza each day, well below the target of 500 trucks per day.
Humanitarian situation in Gaza
UNRWA coordinates the majority of humanitarian aid in Gaza, a region besieged and ravaged by conflict. Since last October, more than 33,800 people, mainly women and children, have lost their lives during the clashes.
Origin of the conflict
The war was sparked by a Hamas attack on Israeli soil in October, resulting in the deaths of many people, including civilians. Kidnappings and deaths have also been reported, fueling tensions between the two sides.
