Reports have emerged that the Iranian military has seized control of an Israeli-owned ship near the Strait of Hormuz.
According to reports, the ship in question is MSC ARIES, which sailed under the Portuguese flag and was heading from the UAE to India.
Israeli connection
The Iranian Tasnim News Agency reported that a cargo ship belonging to the Israeli entity was detained in the Gulf waters by the Revolutionary Guard Navy.
In addition, the Associated Press reported that the ship involved in an incident in the Strait of Hormuz may be the MSC ARIES linked to Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer.
British warning
Today, Saturday, the British Army issued a warning about the possibility of an unknown party boarding a ship near the Strait of Hormuz.
The warning issued by British Maritime Trade Operations did not provide any details about the ship’s boarding in the Gulf of Oman off the coast of the Emirati city of Fujairah.
Tensions escalate
This incident comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, especially after the attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria.
An air strike, which Syrian and Iranian officials attributed to Israel, destroyed the headquarters of the Iranian consulate in Damascus, causing the death of two leaders, including the most senior Iranian military official in Syria, and members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. The death toll from the strike that was attributed to Israel and targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus rose to 16 dead, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Wednesday.
German websites had confirmed that the Iranian response to Israel would be limited, while most comments on social media sites said that the operation was nothing more than an American-Iranian-Israeli agreement, to save Iran’s face, without any material or life losses on the Israeli side.
