The regions of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima and Fes-Meknes are undertaking an exceptional step to enhance regional connectivity and accessibility. They are preparing to allocate a budget of approximately 50 million Moroccan Dirhams to construct a bridge over the “Oued El Wahda Dam,” one of the largest dams in Morocco and the second-largest in Africa in terms of volume.
This ambitious project aims to alleviate isolation in the regional areas between the two regions, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima and Fes-Meknes, and is a vital component of major connectivity projects in Morocco. The final touches on the project were recently completed after a meeting gathering all stakeholders involved in the project at the headquarters of the Fes-Meknes Regional Council.
During this meeting, agreement was reached on all the financing details for the construction of the “Bridge of Salvation,” spanning 650 meters. The Tangier Regional Council will provide approximately 30 million Dirhams, while the Fes-Meknes Regional Council will allocate 20 million Dirhams towards the project.
In this context, the parliamentarian and Vice President of the Tangier Regional Council, Arabi El Mahrashi, affirmed that the project is expected to be completed in the coming months, following the completion of all procedures between the Fes and Tangier regions. Work on the bridge is expected to commence in early 2025.
It is worth noting that in 2022, several members of parliament in both Wazan and Taounate signed the “Unity Pact” to advocate for the establishment of a bridge connecting the two regions at the level of the “Oued El Wahda Dam.”
