Large Quantity of Frozen Meat Seized at Tangier Med Port

Customs officials at Tangier Med Port successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant amount of frozen red meat into Morocco. The incident occurred when a Moroccan immigrant residing in Spain tried to bring approximately 74 kilograms of frozen meat into the country in his personal vehicle.

Details revealed that the immigrant attempted to deceive customs authorities by claiming ignorance of the applicable laws, alleging that his father had passed away in an effort to elicit sympathy from the customs officer in charge of inspection. He initially succeeded in obtaining a temporary admission document and retrieving his passport and vehicle registration card, then left the port.

However, the vigilance of customs authorities prevented the success of this attempt. The immigrant was pursued, apprehended, and returned to the customs crossing point. He was prohibited from bringing the frozen meat into Moroccan territory and compelled to return to Algeciras Port.

It is worth noting that the import of this type of food product is prohibited and subject to special authorization under Moroccan law. This operation comes as part of the ongoing efforts by Moroccan customs authorities to combat smuggling and protect citizens’ health security.

This incident highlights the importance of adhering to customs laws and procedures in force, and confirms the vigilance and efficiency of customs personnel in addressing attempts at smuggling and circumventing the law.
