The 18th edition of the International Trans-Saharan Film Festival opened on Monday in the Moroccan city of Zagora, amid a wonderful celebratory atmosphere created by the “Al-Rakba” troupe, which represents one of the artistic heritage faces of the southeastern region of Morocco.
The opening ceremony witnessed a large public attendance, as well as distinguished international participation including the Republic of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, while Russia was the guest of honor for this edition. Speeches were delivered during the ceremony by representatives of local authorities and the festival’s president and founder, Khalid Shahid, along with the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Morocco, Solikol Selukyzy, and the Russian Ambassador to Rabat, Vladimir Baybakov.
The festival’s president expressed his pride in the event reaching its 18th edition, pointing to the development it has achieved to become one of the important international festivals that contribute to connecting societies across different continents, and an opportunity to showcase the region’s tourism and cultural specificities.
This edition features a diverse program including four competitions: feature films, documentaries, short films, and screenplay competition. 25 films from 20 countries are competing for the festival’s awards. Azerbaijan is also participating with the film “Cold as Marble” by director Asif Rustamov in the official feature film competition.
The festival aims to promote cultural and artistic exchange between participating countries and highlight the region’s tourism and heritage potential, contributing to strengthening international relations and opening new horizons for cooperation in the fields of cinema, culture, and tourism.
