An environmental organization has lodged a formal complaint with the relevant authorities in Fez regarding serious health threats and violations resulting from the illegal confinement of dogs in abandoned communal slaughterhouses.
The group emphasized that these actions pose a significant risk to public health and contravene national laws prohibiting the unauthorized use of slaughterhouses or the storage of animals within them.
The complaint highlighted that these violations not only endanger the health and safety of residents but also tarnish the city’s reputation concerning adherence to environmental and health standards. The organization has called on local and regional authorities to urgently intervene and implement the necessary legal measures, including rehabilitating these sites and closing them off to prevent further illegal activities.
Furthermore, the group urged authorities to enhance health monitoring and establish specialized facilities for animal care and welfare, aligning with both national and international standards.
